What is Brisbane Famous For?

Brisbane is the capital city of Australia’s most famous holiday state, Queensland.

“Brissie” as most Australians call it, is a lovely city metropolis that lies on the banks of the Brisbane River. The weather is generally beautiful, the people are friendly, and there are so many entertaining activities to do when you are there. We have created a list of the top things to do when in Brisbane, and what makes it famous.

1. The beautiful CBD

The CBD of Brisbane is large; however, you could cover everything it has to offer in half a day. Spend your time walking or catching public transport to some of the locations that interest you. There are markets, scenic walks, lovely café’s, restaurants, and tonnes of shopping to do when you are in the CBD.

2. Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

Not only does it house hundreds of koalas, but it also has so many other adorable native Australian animals. Including, kangaroos, wombats, wallabies, dingoes, snakes, crocodiles. Spend the day here supporting the efforts of the rangers and their conservation of vulnerable animals, to ensure that they are well looked after before returning to the wilderness.

3. Brisbane Botanical Gardens and Mt. Coot-tha

The Brisbane Botanical Gardens is an absolute must-see when you are in the area. The vantage point gives you an unbelievable panoramic view of the city as well as several themed gardens that spread across 128 acres. As well as the gardens, located just a 4-minute drive away is the Mt. Coot-tha lookout, where you can see some breathtaking views and head out on a walking track through the beautiful national park. The best part about this is that it is completely free to explore the Botanical Gardens and the Mount Coot-tha lookout!

4. Moreton Island

Moreton Island is located just a short ferry ride from the Brisbane CBD and is one of the most beautiful places in Queensland. It is a sand island that is covered in picturesque beaches and steep sand dunes, perfect for sandboarding and exploring. Spend the day snorkelling the beautiful coral reefs and check out the famous Tangalooma Shipwrecks. Moreton Island is also a great destination for whale and dolphin watching, with these beautiful creatures passing by the island during their migration north.
