I called this post about town because that's what we did during this shoot. I got to work early so I left early. We ran a couple errands, got coffee, picked Em up from school, stopped by this private road, all in my office clothes. This is another goodie I got in my latest Gwynnie Bee box; I love wrap dresses, they're so flattering, and this print is just so fun (and perfect for Valentine's Day!). If I was wearing this out for the holiday, I'd switch out the tights and old reliable work booties for sheer black hose and something with a slim heel and ankle strap. But how perfect is this for "desk to drinks" on the 14th?
I first featured my Compass Rose bracelet from Silver Linings this summer and it continues to be a favorite. It's comfortable enough that I often leave it on when I sleep and shower. Silver Linings, a Maryland-based company, sent me a second bracelet just in time for Valentine's Day from their Reel Love collection (get it?). The fish hook has been a symbol of unity love for many centuries. Some folklore states that with the open end of the hook pointed up toward your heart, your love is taken. With the open end of the hook worn away from your heart, you are single. Other stories passed down believe that the hook worn up keeps your luck with you; the hook worn down will help you "catch" good luck if you are in need. A Caribbean story is that was when the men of a village would set out to sea, their wives would wear the hook down with the open end of the hook pointed away from their heart. When the men were due to return and their ship was spotted their wives would turn the hook up toward their heart symbolizing the safe return of their loves. When I read this story, it made me think of spouses in the military waiting for the safe return of their deployed loved ones. While the fish hook bracelet is on trend right now, knowing the meaning behind it makes it even more special. My Compass Rose swap top is on a 6.5 bangle bracelet; the fish hook is on a 7. Both are comfortable, but the 7 makes it more like a bangle and easier to wear with other bracelets. What's cool with these swap top bracelets is you can buy one bangle and switch out the swap top for multiple looks... though I love the look of two of them together!
