Where Is the American Pie Cast Now? A Look at 25 Years Later

American Pie was released 25 years ago, it became one of the most popular teen movies of all time. Despite certain flaws with a few scenes in the movie. Like how Porky’s saw plot points become horrendous to think about now, American Pie contains that moment. However, for the horny teenagers of the world, it was popular and for my generation was the backbone of sleazy teen comedies. The franchise did spawn three sequels with the main cast, along with a host of low-budget spin-offs that never hit the same heights.

While the subject matter is an open discussion, today my focus is on the male stars of the movie. I will be exploring the careers of the actresses in a later post. For today, we are looking at the core guy friendship cast, with a few honourable mentions.

I plan to explore their careers, the highs, and the lows. To see if the cast managed to become successful or faded away like many stars of the era.

What Happened to the Guys From American Pie?

Jason Biggs – Jim

Jim is the main character in the series, his quirky relationship with his father steals nearly every scene. We see the funniest moments between the pair and Jim on his own. Jim is the character that would have gone most viral and faced a lot more punishment for that sequence in the movie.

American Pie made Jason Biggs a star and typecast him into the loveable loser role. A supporting role in the Freddie Prinze Jr led ‘Boys and Girls’ once again saw him stealing the movie. He quickly followed that up with ‘Loser’ cementing him as one of the best loser figures in any high school/college-aged romantic comedies of the era.

Jason has probably spent his whole career living in the shadow of Jim but that has stopped his having a healthy career in the comedy genre. He has stepped into a few more serious roles with ‘The Subject’ and ‘Who We Are Now’. His last role returned him to comedy with the family festive movie ‘Best. Christmas. Ever!’.

Chris Klein – Oz

Oz is the star lacrosse player who joins his friends in the pledge. He takes things in a different direction by turning to the school choir girl Heather. However, he ends up getting a lot more personal growth, as he learns what is the most important part of life. It would be fair to say Oz ends up having the most serious of the guy’s storyline throughout the movie.

Chris Klein was one of the cast who instantly got put on the list of future stars. He looked like a young Keanu Reeves and his more muscular look made him stand out from the rest of the guys. Chris was thrown into a couple of romantic movies, ‘Say It Isn’t So’ and ‘Here on Earth’ before returning for American Pie 2. This quickly saw him thrown into action movies with the poorly received Die Hard director John McTiernan’s ‘Rollerball’ and opposite Mel Gibson in Randall Wallace’s ‘We Were Soldiers’.

Sadly, for Chris, his career never took off with the potential many had imagined. His well-documented drinking problems took their toll on his career. Thankful, he addressed the problem sought out help and is now living a much healthier life. He did star in a few movies in the last decade, but none that made any major impact on the audiences. However, his 16 episodes in ‘The Flash’ and his main role in ‘Sweet Magnolias’ gave him a chance to prove his acting chops again.

Thomas Ian Nicholas – Kevin

Kevin is the member of the group who puts the pledge together in hopes of having sex with his long-term girlfriend. He feels like he was meant to be the lead of the story but easily gets overshadowed by the other characters. Kevin might be the most grounded of the characters and never ends up on any wild adventures.

Thomas’s career never really took off compared to the rest of the cast. An appearance in Halloween Resurrection also proved the star wasn’t going in the best direction. However, T.I.N. Men his band has given him plenty to keep him busy throughout his career.

Eddie Kaye Thomas – Finch

Finch is the strangest member of the group. He is always coming up with a larger plan to find a girl. However, his plans don’t pay off until he meets an older lady in the film. His character only became stranger in the future instalments of the franchise.

Eddie tried his hand at even raunchy comedies that never managed to land in the same way. Movies like ‘Freddy Got Fingered’ and a supporting role in the ‘Harold and Kumar’ franchise followed up. Luckily, for Eddie, he found a lot of work in voice work appearing in over 100 episodes of ‘American Dad’.

Seann William Scott – Stifler

Stifler is the loudmouth of the group who is always bragging about the number of girls he has slept with. He hosts the parties and causes the guys to put their pledges together. Stifler quickly became the scene-stealer in the movie and gave us some of the most memorable lines of the movie. Even though this is more about the first movie, Stifler quickly became more of a focal point in the franchise moving forward.

Seann quickly rose to stardom after the role of Stifler. ‘Final Destination’, ‘Road Trip’, ‘Dude, Where’s My Car?’ and ‘Evolution’ followed up and each has a following to this day. Unlike Chris Klein, Seann stepped into more of an action-comedy era where he didn’t get as much attention if the films weren’t as popular. This included ‘Bulletproof Monk’, and opposite Dwayne Johnson in ‘Welcome to the Jungle’.

Seann landed voice work in the ‘Ice Age’ sequels which has kept him secure for his career. This gave him a chance to take on riskier comedies which had a variety of box office success. ‘Role Models’ is the standout of the box office returns. However, ‘Goon’ gave him a gritty comedy that received much critical acclaim. Sadly, his attempts at more serious roles including ‘Just Before I Go’ (Which I personally really enjoyed) struggled to find an audience. Meanwhile, ‘Bloodline’ grabbed the attention for the complete change in the role we had become used to seeing Seann in.

John Cho – MILF Guy

The MILF Guy pair seemed to create a new term and didn’t have that big of a role in the movie. I feel I need to mention the fact John Cho is in this movie and has gone on to have arguably the biggest career of the whole cast. It wasn’t an easy start, but appearing in the reboot of ‘Star Trek’ got him a lot of attention. ‘Searching’ is one of the best movies of the last five years and it just continued to show how busy he has been since American Pie.

In Conclusion

After looking through the careers of the male stars of American Pie. We can see despite an addiction issue with got resolved, the whole cast has gone on to find a comfortable career in Hollywood. Most will always be remembered for their roles in the movie. However, plenty have gone on to make a name for themselves in other movies of television shows.
