What Happened to My Generation?

By Authorsbelle @AuthorSBelle
Why are the people of my generation so indecisive?  Pick me!  Pick me!  I know the answer!  Most of them, not all, are busy trying to figure out which route will be easiest and require the least amount of effort.  The people in my age group are constantly looking for a way to do nothing and receive everything.
How did this happen?  I'm glad you asked.  It's a combination of things, but I believe the majority of the problem is the way kids are being raised in this technology saturated era.  Warning!  Ten years from now it will be worse.
Nothing is inaccessible anymore.  If I want something, I can order it from Amazon and have it in hand in three days.  Oh, and if I don't have the money right now I can just use a credit card.  I don't do that, but you get the point.
Parenting has even changed because of it.  Why spend actual time with your children when you can just stream a movie from Netflix and pop some popcorn?  Movie night is an awesome idea, but it shouldn't be the only way we spend time with our kids.  I say this like I have children, still, I know there has to be a better way because I was raised better.  My mom was a single mom and she still made it to every gymnastics meet, every play, every dance recital, and made sure I was outside any other time I was free.  My hobbies weren't an excuse for her to drop me off and disappear, they were a time for her to take pride in my growth as a young artist.
People in their twenties and younger have lost all understanding of true human connection.  It's not in text messages, youtube videos, or instagram.  We have to learn how to connect on a deeper level, and stop searching for "the next best thing."  People are so used to instant gratification, that cheating has become acceptable and almost expected.  My ex felt that it was perfectly acceptable to keep looking for a woman after we got married.  He couldn't take pride in the choice he made and had to know if he was missing out on a new updated version.
Bottom line, people can't be trusted, but it seems my generation is worse than any that have come before.  For now, I'm going to sit back and observe.  Time will help.  Sometimes, you just have to let people grow up.
