What Every Christian Need to Know About the Qur’an

I will admit that I read James White’s What Every Christian Needs to Know About the Qur’an with some hesitation. Not because I have anything against White but because I see a dangerous trend among Evangelicals of being very disrespectful.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. White does not rely on fear tactics in this book, he relies on real scholarship. Even those who have read the Qur’an previously will learn quite a bit from this book. White takes the reader through the important topics in the Qur’an that Christians need to know. Beyond just quoting passages in the Qur’an, he puts things in context by bringing in the Hadith as well as Christian apocrypha. I was fascinated by the material and found it hard to put the book down.

Beyond the scholarship, I was impressed by White’s respectful presentation. He obviously disagrees with Islam, but he sees Muslims not as people to be insulted but as people who need to know the Gospel of Jesus. The way he presents his material is not to make Christians feel superior but rather to equip Christians in their conversations with Muslims. I highly recommend this book.
