Home Care After Implant Surgery.
A nutritious diet will be essential to your recovery after your dental implant surgery.

We’re going to go over the most common questions that we get asked regarding diet after implant surgery. What should I eat after my surgery?

Initially, as we mentioned in our previous titles, you won’t want to eat anything hard or chewy because the sight in your mouth will be tender. You’ll have some swelling, so you’ll want to avoid anything complicated or challenging for the first day after the surgery.

In addition to the first few days, you’re going to want to stick with liquid or soft foods such as soups, smoothies, ice cream, milkshakes, and anything soft doesn’t require a lot of chewing; in addition, you’re going to want to avoid anything hot because after your surgery your mouth is going to be numb so you want to avoid traumatizing that area with anything hot.

As you begin to heal, you’ll be able to advance your diet and be able to incorporate more regular foods into your diet, such as pancakes, scrambled eggs, fish, and mashed potatoes, and by about a week after your surgery, you’ll be able to eat more of a regular diet. What foods should you avoid for the first two weeks after surgery?

It’s essential to prevent any acidic or spicy foods as this can irritate the area; in addition, it’s necessary to avoid any small or crunchy foods such as popcorn chips or nuts, as this can get into the room and affect the healing of the area.

Any other helpful tips you can start rinsing your mouth with warm salt water the next day after the surgery, and you can do that up to three to four times a day, particularly after meals.

What Can I Eat After Dental Implant Surgery?

We’d like to give you some diet guidelines to help you remain healthy
following your dental implant surgery.
The dental implants in your mouth are not stable. It will take time for them to heal and integrate into your jawbone.

If the implants move, they will likely fail, so you must follow our food recommendations to eat soft foods.

If you apply too much pressure by chewing something hard, you will cause the implant to move and ultimately fail to drink lots of cold water after your dental implant surgery. Do not swish the water in your mouth. Gently tip your head back and forth to avoid disturbing the clot formation.

Eat cold foods. Starting, please only eat cold foods for the first 24 hours. Both food and drinks should be challenging, and food should be soft, like pudding, ice cream, etc. after 24 hours, you can start introducing warm foods and beverages.

You can return to hot foods 14 days after your dental implant surgery and food recommendations for the day after dental implant surgery.

We advise drinking diluted fruit juices three to five times a day. These should be cold or at room temperature, and you can blend them with a complete meal powder.

Things to Avoid After Dental Implant Surgery

  • Avoid spicy foods, chips, and popcorn also avoid carbonated beverages like acidic drinks like orange juice for the first 14 days after your surgery.
  • After day 3 continued to eat soft and mashed fruit and vegetables you know such as bananas and soft avocados, mashed melons and soft fruits you can also opt for vegetables like cooked, mashed or pureed beans peas and lentils with rice and plenty of steamed or sauteed leafy green vegetables like spinach, fruit smoothies with fruit juice, banana, mango and a few leaves of romaine lettuce are also okay.
  • Not all fruits are acceptable though smoothies made with soft berries like strawberries or blackberries are not advisable because they contain small seeds that can be trapped in the post-operative area and that can interfere with the healing process.
  • Do not use straws at all continue to eat soft foods for the first 14 days following your dental implant surgery, and do not chew anything that you cannot pinch through easily with your fingers if you can’t pinch through it If you have a blender blend your foods well this is ideal you do need to make sure that you’re getting the proper nutrition too one cannot live on ice cream alone a blender is a great option for getting all those fruits and veggies.
  • Patients that eat hard foods too quickly following their dental implant surgery can risk losing their implants.
  • Our dentists at Copperhills Family Dentistry recommend staying away from piping hot liquids, as this can irritate the gum tissue and complicate recuperation.
  • No smoking it may seem obvious to you but you should not smoke following your dental implant surgery it is best to discontinue smoking for as long as possible after your surgery, and if you can quit smoking well this is the best at a minimum patient should refrain from smoking for the first 14 days following dental implant surgery.

Foods That Are Advised to be Eaten

We advise you to consume or eat the same regime the patient should follow after a simple extraction or a minor surgery.

Generally, we recommend the patient follow the instructions we give after any minor surgical procedure in the mouth or any extraction procedure in the mouth gene we tell the patient to keep the cotton or gauze for 30 minutes.

That’s tourist bleeding; the patient can have ice cream or cold juice.

You know which patient will feel better having it, and the patient should follow a diet that is non-spicy, not hot and may be soft.

Ask the patient to avoid biting hard food and even from the area or the site where the procedure has been done; these are the simple instructions we give.

Suppose you have performed some extensive or specific surgery for implants, especially if you have done a sinus lift. In that case, we ask the patient to take additional precautions like not going through the nose, or we ask the patient to have some hot water or lukewarm water gargle.

The patient should also follow the antibiotic regime we prescribe, but after the implant surgery, the patient should follow a non-spicy, not very hot and not harrowing diet.
