It’s been raining here a lot lately, and when you have crazy frizz-prone hair like I do, dry laundry is the least of your problems when it’s belting down.
With this sodden weather, my hair assumes it has permission to go absolutely psycho, but no such permission has ever been granted. Not good, Jan. In fact, Jan, it’s really, really crappy.
Forget bad hair days, even on a good hair day, my locks are hard to control. The photographic evidence provided is undeniable proof of the frizzlemma I often find myself in.
In helping me to avoid the poodle look (well whenever possible), my mate Kylie-the-hairdresser has shared with me some of her industry insider secrets. She never said I couldn’t tell, and so here’s Kylie-the-hairdresser’s own take on keeping frizz-free
- Only brush while your hair is wet. Because dry, brittle hair will stretch and break … dry brushing is a no-no!
- After shampooing – *gently* towel dry and use a wide tooth comb
- Hair twirling is banned for good – the more you mess with it, the more you annoy the cuticles and they only have one payback – frizz!
- Don’t shampoo daily – it’ll strip the goodness of your own natural moisturisers from that already cranky hair. Every second day, at the most, is fine. Your shampoo and conditioner should be tailored for dry or damaged hair.
- In addition to being brittle, dry hair tends to stretch and break when brushed. After you shower, carefully towel-dry your hair and then gently brush it or use a comb.
- Put moisture in – a deep conditioning treatment, leave-in balm, Moroccan oil etc. Find a protein rich product that you love and use it often.
- Don’t overuse tools – dry your hair naturally where possible as hairdryers, straighteners, curlers etc are really not your pals. If you do need to blowdry, focus on the roots and not the ends.
So there you go and thank God for Kylie, I say!
