West Hollywood: Where to Stay

By Ripleydaniels @mikesobol

Those planning a trip to Los Angeles are in for a big treat. This sprawling metropolis is home to some of the most iconic sites and attraction in the whole of the United States – even the world. LA is ground zero for the movie industry, and thus offers tours of major Hollywood studios. Those with a beach holiday in mind have their pick of some of the most famous options on the West Coast, including Hermosa and Venice beaches. Yes, Los Angeles has no shortage activities for vacationers; the only real question is where to stay after touching down at LAX. Those who want to be central to everything would do well to consider West Hollywood.

Everything from the Hollywood sign to the Santa Monica pier is merely a hop, skip and a jump from this trendy little enclave, which makes it a good base for travelers. And West Hollywood offers a wide selection of quality hotels to accommodate most budgets. Here is just a sampling of some of the more convenient options.

Best Western Sunset Plaza – 8400 Sunset Blvd, $199.00+

Those who want to experience some Hollywood glam while adhering to a tight budget would do well to consider this Best Western option. Located at the famed Sunset Plaza right on the strip, visitors who stay here are just a couple blocks away from some of the trendiest bars, clubs and restaurants in the city. As far as amenities are concerned, the hotel offers a heated swimming pool and complimentary breakfast.

Andaz – 8401 Sunset Blvd, $295.00+

This 239-room hotel features a modern design inspired by all the glamour and sexiness of the Sunset Strip itself. This is certainly an upscale lodging option, but guests of the Andaz should find the rooftop sundeck and pool – with panoramic views of the Los Angeles skyline – well worth the extra dinero.

London West Hollywood – 1020 N. san Vicente Blvd., $369.00+

The London chain of hotels is known for glitz and glamour, and the West Hollywood locale is no exception. Formerly the Bel Age hotel, the property has undergone a full makeover and the result is 200 rooms with open floor plan, rooftop sundeck with heated pool and world-class dining provided by mast chef Gordon Ramsay.

Grafton on Sunset – 8560 Sunset Blvd., $209.00+

Those who want to get away from the larger chains may want to consider this boutique option. The Grafton features a number of unique attributes, including a Mediterranean garden and saltwater pool. Its strategic location right in between Beverly Hills and Hollywood also makes it an ideal spot for visitors to hang their hats.

Mondrian – 8440 Sunset Blvd., $279.00+

One of West Hollywood’s most famous hotels, the Mondrian is a towering testament to the raw excitement and luxury of the Sunset Strip. The hotel has also received a makeover, courtesy of famed designer Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz. But its most iconic features, including its 30-foot mahogany front door, remain unchanged.

These are just a few ideas for those new to Los Angeles and looking to settle in someplace cozy. Each one of the above options is strategically located just blocks – or in some case inches – from major LA sites, like the Sunset Strip.
