Liv Lab - Wholefoods Deli has just opened in Palmyra and is the ultimate destination for gluten, sugar and dairy free treats.
Founded by siblings, Emily and Leash, it was a natural progression to expand from supplying to retail stores via The Sugarless Bakery to opening a stand-alone shop. They knew from the success of The Sugarless Bakery that Perth was screaming out for a store like Liv Lab. People who are health conscious or have dietary requirements shouldn't miss out and now they don't have to.
It's a light, bright and airy space, which stocks a new range of creations that literally taste as good as they look. A large communal table allows for bigger groups to dine at (there's plenty of space to bring along the kids), or park yourself along the bench style seating near the window and watch the world go by.
Being health conscious, Emily and Leash pride themselves on creating meals that have been refined as little as possible and are free from additives and other artificial substances. Although a lot of sugarless alternatives exist, they're often packed full of sugar from fruit. Liv Lab uses foods that are low fructose and nutrient dense such as pumpkin, nuts, and coconut. Natural flavours are derived from vanilla, cinnamon and cocoa.
Liv Lab also uses a natural and plant based alternative,100% Xylitol for sweetness and there's no nasty aftertaste.
As well as sweet treats, Liv Lab also offers a wide variety of savoury meals that include curries, salads, pizza and cheese boards, all vegan of course!
For lunch, I dined on sweet potato and zucchini curry, vegetarian slice and brown rice ($16). It was ridiculously flavourful and nutritious. I also love that all the meals are served in eco friendly containers where a lid can be popped on if need be so your dish can be transported safely.
My toasted gluten free cherry and coconut paleo bread topped with nut caramel berry compote and whipped coconut butter ($10) was the stuff dreams are made of. Both of my sons were eager to get their hands on this and I'm lucky there were three vegan truffles in chocolate mint and peanut butter otherwise I would've missed out. Incredibly moist and full of cherries and shredded coconut, I still can't believe the bread was sugar free.
Oscar got to enjoy a Babychino (50c) while I quenched my thirst with a Cold Brew XO tea ($5). I loved this drink; icy cold and packed full of mint, lemon and strawberries, it was refreshing and so delicious. Definitely a drink for hot summer days.
Coffee is of course available with almond milk and provided by Veneziano coffee roasters.
The girls looked after me the morning of my visit and gave me a goody bag to feast on later although it only lasted until the evening. This was cracked open once my boys were in bed and I didn't have to share! All of it was incredible and I hate to play favourites but the Lemon Brulee ($7) was incredible. A subtle hint of lemon, this little slice of heaven from Liv Lab was tangy and sweet yet is sugarless, gluten free but also paleo and low carb!!
It's definitely worth checking out Liv Lab, located at 327 Canning Highway, Palmyra. They're open Tuesday - Sunday 7am to 3pm. I don't even lead a sugar-free lifestyle and I was suitably impressed. Taste is not compromised. Apparently, their Caramel Keto Waffle with whipped butterscotch coconut butter, nut caramel, sugarless ganache and keto cookie dough crumble is amazing so that's what I'll be eyeing off next.
