Marketing news.
Something we KNOW we need to keep up with (in the do-or-die business world we live in!), yet there’s always something ‘better’ we find to do with our time.
What if I made you an offer you couldn’t resist?
Like catching up with ALL the important (no fluff) marketing news of the week – you know, the kind your business can actually benefit from – in a 5-minute read? (I only say 5 minutes because I am a slow reader)
That’s exactly what my Weekly Marketing Skinnies are about.
I sift through trillions (well, hundreds) of online publications to stay on top of marketing news that might affect your online business.
And I package them neatly in bite-sized chunks in my Weekly Marketing Skinnies right here at Traffic Generation Café every Saturday morning.
That’s my way to force myself to keep up with what’s going on in the marketing world (just being honest here!), and you happen to benefit from it.
Win-win?
Almost.
I’ll ask you to do a couple of (very easy, I promise!) things for me and then we’ll call it even.
(Now thinking about it, this goes against ALL conversion techniques we read about – you never ask your readers to do anything for you! If you do, they’ll perceive it as too much work and leave. Let’s see about that…)
So here it goes:
1. Please share this week’s Weekly Marketing Skinny – I truly need to be encouraged by your shares to keep doing this week after week.
And I am not even going to feed you the ‘your followers will benefit from it, so you are really doing yourself a favor’ hogwash, even though it would be completely true in this case.
If you appreciate what I do, share this Marketing Skinny: Tweet Pin Share11 +14Total Shares 15THANK YOU.
2. I’ll ask you to do this a bit later in the post – after you’ve tasted how good and easy my Weekly Marketing Skinnies truly are.
Now grab your cup of coffee and let’s catch up on the marketing news that matter to your business.
Let’s start with the news from Traffic Generation Café.

In many ways, Twitter is not unlike projectile vomiting – a forceful and uncontrollable firehose that it is.
And managing Twitter… well, it could feel like trying to take a sip from that firehose.
Many of you dread Twitter for this reason alone, and I don’t blame you.
So, whatever shall a marketer do?
Ditch it?
Out of the question, IF that’s where your target audience is.
Automate the life out of it?
No siree! Might as well ditch it…
So what’s the answer to this pain-in-the-neck-that-it-is suck-you-in-n-never-spit-you-out Twitter situation?
Manage it. Put yourself on a Twitter time budget.

Search
Sitewide header and footer (and sidebar!) links are given less weight by Google.
What about your competitors throwing a bunch of spammy links at you? Google’s John Mueller responds.
You linking out to other sites doesn’t help you rank better.
Once images are indexed, it can take months for Google to crawl them again and update, if needed.
This is definitely a GREAT keyword ‘idea’ research tool.
Social Media
Facebook announced its latest usage numbers in its Q4 2015 earnings and they are certainly something to marvel about.
[this is HUGE] Facebook now offers Live Video streaming to all iPhone users in the U.S.
More Facebook: Facebook is to launch Reactions ‘in the next few weeks’. Here’s everything you need to know about them.
Even more Facebook: Facebook now tracks Call-to-Action clicks via ‘Actions on Page’ Insights tab.
Apparently, Twitter has stopped showing ads to some of its most valuable users.
Unusual (which makes them great in my book!) LinkedIn hacks: 3 Unusual Hacks to Dramatically Up Your LinkedIn Game.
Google+ Collections are quickly becoming the cornerstone of the platform. Here are some quick tips on how to make the most of them.
New YouTube feature: You can now auto loop your favorite YouTube videos natively.
Periscope now integrates with GoPro.
Snapchat now has a handy URL you can use to add friends to your network easily.

Medium now lets publishers schedule posts, link Twitter accounts to publications.
Inbox By Gmail gets smarter search with quick answer cards. Have you tried Inbox yet? I love it…
Firefox 44 released with push notifications that sites can send even AFTER users close the page.
Next Week’s Challenge
This is the best way to stop procrastinating, bar none. I’ve been doing it in the past couple of days and it WORKS.
I’ve gotten a few little things out of the way (you know, the ones that keep irritating you every time you turn around, yet you feel like you have no time to take care of them), and it feels G-O-O-O-O-D!
Next week, I am planning on staying on top of it.
You?

To all of you who mentioned Traffic Generation Café in any shape or form in the past week, my whole-hearted THANK YOU.
Traffic Generation Café would NOT be what it is today without you.
And I am not the only one who thinks that, by the way.
Take a look at the comment Kurt Frankenberg of Shoestring101.com (one of my favorite blogs, by the way) left on a recent Weekly Marketing Skinny:
