Weekly Love Fest: 5 Sites to Find Your Next Great Read

I was having a conversation with my 17-year old son today when he complimented me on having a “bookish” blog.  For those of you with teenagers, I’m sure you recognize how astounding that statement is!  Anytime a compliment is received it is and should be treasured, but when one of my children give me a compliment {especially regarding something so very special to me, ie- The Novel Life} then savoring the thought behind the words is like a priceless treasure.  Not that my son is not a sweet boy, but its quite rare for him to see the world I inhabit ~ at this point in his life, his world is the world.  So, in the course of the conversation he was telling me that I should recommend books as in “if you’ve read & liked this book, then you should read that book…”  Which got me to thinking ~ I know of quite a few sites already doing that very thing, and in many of my reviews I do try to suggest a couple of books that if you like this one you may like that one too……so with all that said, today’s Love Fest is dedicated to bookish sites. . .and celebrated in honor of my son. . .

Sites to “find your next book here:”

Bookish ~ One of the latest book recommending sites.  With Bookish you can type in a book you’ve loved, and you’re given up to four recommendations with links to purchase.  The site is clean, with large type and links to areas of interest….definitely not as cluttered and much more streamlined than Goodreads.

What Should I Read Next ~ Simplistic in design yet powerful in production.  It’s not necessary to “sign in” unless you’d like to create shelves.  A fun, interactive easy to use site! Try it out!

Whichbook ~ What I love about this site is you can choose a book by mood, emotion, comfort level, types of characters, country of origin/setting and a variety of other distinguishing points.  Whichbook is a great way to find those books that are not necessarily on your immediate radar but will completely engulf you in reading.

Goodreads, Shelfari & LibraryThing ~ Individually these sites are powerfully important in the book world yet similar in action and function.  All three have immense capabilities to secure your reading habits, library shelves, to-be-read desires, and thrives on creating social reading communities.  As a side note, both Goodreads and Shelfari are owned by Amazon. Not sure where you sit on the Amazon monopoly, but feel its important to point out.

Your Next Read ~ The great thing I have found about Your Next Read is the lists of children’s books recommended sorted by age group.  As a fairly new YaYa, finding quality, age-appropriate toddler books are important to me.  A unique feature is the mapping system ~ click on some of your favorite books, see the connections and get the recommendations ~ a wonderfully visual aspect generated for your book recommendation pleasure!
