Weekend Box Office: ‘Ninja Turtles’ Wins

Posted on the 10 August 2014 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

Ninja Turtles won the weekend, easily beating Guardians, and overperforming by 25M. Into the Storm ended up doing OK, but nothing memorable. The Hundred Foot Journey, also, OK.

Get On Up dropped a disturbing 63% in Week 2. Those box office numbers are imperative if Chadwick Boseman hopes to be an Oscar contender in a very tight race this year.

In limited release, Boyhood managed a 4K per screen average from 507 screens. Magic In The Moonlight averaged 4K, and Calvary averaged 5K.

This weekends new limited releases both underperformed. What If only managed 6K, despite glowing reviews, and James Cameron’s Deep Sea Challenge bombed with $496 per screen.

In comparison, Deep Sea Challenge was seen by less people than older titles like The Fault In Our Stars, Earth To Echo, Neighbors, and Snowpiercer.
