Just a couple of days ago, I was about to leave for work. It was a bright sunny day, clear skies and a pleasant breeze. Temperature and weather prediction seemed to be normal, according to my weather app. Nothing seemed to go wrong that day.
But just an hour prior, the clear skies and clean weather were replaced by dark clouds, violent winds, and nonstop rain, while the weather app had shown me predictions of a clean day.
Honestly, this wasn't a shock for me. I have used over a dozen weather apps over the last 6 months since I need to travel regularly for work and the weather quite often plays spoil sport. There are big names like AccuWeather, Yahoo weather, Weather Underground and MSN weather, but I hadn't really found an app that actually serves my purpose. Until now!
Today I'm going to tell you all about an app called WeatherBug, which I recently came across and have been using over the past month. So let's get started!
Importance of a good weather app
The biggest similarity between luck and weather is that both are unpredictable! Weather and climatic changes are definitely something that can't be predicted to a 100%. Mother Nature and her conditions can change dramatically from good, bad to worse in a matter of minutes. A nice bright day by the beach can transform into a hurricane, a breezy dry day can turn into a tornado. Who knows when even lightning may strike! What seems clean now can turn into a heap of mess in a matter of minutes.
On a personal scale, dramatic weather changes tend to affect your outdoor activities like camping, hiking, trekking, swimming, cycling, etc. While on a commercial scale, it can also considerably impact travel/tourism and even your business and productivity.
A good weather application with real time updates, hourly notifications, accurate weather maps, and forecasts is a viable solution to tackling such circumstance. Giving live updates is not weather conditions is not a tough task, to be honest. The prime objective of a good and reliable weather app is giving "near to accurate" weather forecasts and predictions of the days to follow. WeatherBug does that for you!
What is WeatherBug?
is a real time weather and climate WeatherBug tracking application that provides useful, valuable and reliable information about the prevailing and upcoming weather conditions.
The app has some really trustworthy features like real time lighting maps, facts, and figures for the upcoming Hurricane season, forecasts on the upcoming Tornado season and more. One cool feature that the app possesses the Doppler radar forecasts which is noted to be one of the most accurate updates today.
Highlight features: Why it is different?
WeatherBug is a very modern climate tracking application that sensibly uses the aids of the latest advents and technologies in meteorology. The most promising features that the application possesses are as follows.
WeatherBug's "Hurricane Center"
WeatherBug has a dedicated section for Hurricane, called the "Hurricane Center". This section provides all the necessary information regarding upcoming Hurricane seasons like the Atlantic Hurricane season via top articles, NEWS, etc. It even provides relevant information, on how to stay prepared for a Hurricane? Facts, factoids, alphabetically arranged list of all Hurricanes, Tropical storm alerts and more.
You may also like:
WeatherBug's "Spark"
WeatherBug's "Spark" is a feature that provides information and facts about lightning drops and related activities. You will get in-app lighting alerts, live lighting maps, real time proximity warnings and relevant safety alerts.
Tornado: Facts, figures, and updates.
This is an entire section showing the history, facts, figures, and forecasts regarding Tornado. You will get useful and real time alerts and information regarding the conditions in the "Tornado Alley".
Doppler radar forecasts.
The Doppler radar is simply a weather surveillance radar (WSR) that locates precipitation, calculates its motion and estimates its type (rain, snow, hail etc.) across a geographical area. This technology is capable of detecting the motion of rain droplets in addition to the intensity of the precipitation. Both types of data can be analyzed to determine the structure of storms and their potential to cause severe weather.
WeatherBug is aided with real time information synced with the Doppler radar to track storms and help predict where they are headed. Compared to traditional weather forecasts, Doppler radars can show you the size of each coming storm so we know how long the storm will last. This feature is a gold biscuit for a weather app.
WeatherBug/XDA mood survey.
WeatherBug has an interesting feature where it shows a section of the average mood of people in a particular geographical area according to the prevailing weather conditions. The app is synced with an XDA survey for this.
Live NEWS, articles, climate and meteorological information.
Apart from just forecasts and predictions, WeatherBug provides you with live NEWS and articles giving important and trending regarding the weather and climate. It also gives relevant meteorological information.
My opinion
Altogether, WeatherBug is a very promising weather application that serves its purpose and objectives to the best. Apart from the updates and forecasts that every other weather app traditionally provides, WeatherBug gives alerts, relevant articles, information and facts regarding natural calamities your geographical area is prone to during the season.
WeatherBug's "Hurricane Center" and "Spark" features are really very useful and engaging. The Doppler radar information feature the app has is perhaps the biggest pro feature which I have not found in any other application I had used before. Apart from some minor technical glitches, the accuracy of this app is really very commendable.
WeatherBug is available for both Android and iOS devices and is definitely THE weather app you need to have on your phone if you travel a lot for work or for passion.
