"We're Havin' a Heatwave"

By Davidduff

Yes, I know, if you live in Oz, or even in Arkansas, you probably just snorted coffee all over your keyboard but here, in what was known back in Jan/Feb/Mar as the 'Sea of Somerset', clear sunny days and a temperature of 22/23 degrees is a heatwave!  Yesterday I made the most of it and cut the grass in my patch of the churchyard including strimming all the edges.  I was stripped to the waist - natch! - thus showing off my Grecian 'bronzie' and I think several of the elderly ladies wer overcome with passion because I could see them pause and start shaking.  The 'Memsahib' told me they were giggling!  Anyway, by the end I was well 'knacked' and spent the rest of the day recovering and building up my strength to watch England play 'footie' in the evening.  I needn't have bothered - we lost - again!  Why do I bother?

So, apologies for the lack of blogging but these occasional glimpses of Summer are simply to good and too rare to ignore, and certainly too precious to miss by spending my time up here in the attic typing rubbish.  Tonight I am BBQ-ing again, that's three times in a week - unheard of in these parts for years!  I am beginning to regain my old skills.  On second thoughts that might be tempting fate and tonight's effort might be more in the way of a burnt offering to the gods.
