Today was a HUGE day to say the least. We started out the morning wishing Wes a safe trip home, he was a huge help and will be missed. I’m sure he’s ready to be home and can get some peace and quiet.
Today our plans included a checkup at the local doctors clinic, hardware store and grocery shopping. We thought it would be best to take along the stroller because the grocery store was maybe about a mile or more away and little Wags would be getting tired. We were all set to leave. Everyone was dressed and peed, the stroller was on the dock and Carl had just lifted the girls to the dock waiting on me (as usual). Carl then realized he had forgotten his wallet so he got back in the cockpit with his eye on the girls to let me know to grab it. It took all of 3 seconds for Pri to get into the stroller and Wags to push her off the dock, falling 4’ into the water. Luckily Carl was right there and like a great dad fetched Pri, the stroller, baby doll and sippy cup out of the drink. Pri did really well, she initially went under with the stroller but came back up to the surface kicking like a pro. She’s had swim lessons and we’ve continued to teach her but her leg muscles still aren’t strong enough to tread water for long. I think out of all Wags and us were the only traumatized casualties. “wags why did you push me in the water?” Wags cried for about 10 minutes afterwards that her baby doll fell off the dock. Kids!
We hosed the salt of Pri and we were on our way again with a dripping wet stroller. First call was the clinic. They said fill out the form and we’ll have you straight in. Hmmmm “island time” straight in meant waiting over an hour with two kids that wanted to tear down their Christmas tree and open holes in the floor where loose wire was located. They played doctor for a while and we counted toes, fingers, eye balls and whatever else we could. The doctor finally appeared and he was great. A Canadian from Toronto. He understood our pain with the girls bouncing off the walls and wanting to stick their fingers in his used syringe bin. He was very thorough and I’m still a healthy mumma. He pulled out his rough looking ultra sound equipment and got excited to show us our newest family member. I’m currently 29 weeks pregnant and the babe is measuring at 31 weeks. Carl was excited to think the baby would come early but I told him no that just means it’s BIG and bound to be over 9lbs like Wags. The doc was happy to inform me of its large head. NICE! I have actually lost 5lbs since my last check up a month ago so I was a little worried that the baby wasn’t growing but the stomach to head measurements are completely normal, I guess it’s just me getting skinner. I'm hoping to come out of the pregnancy looking like a fit supermodel (ha!) Including the ultrasound our bill was $115, pretty nice.
It was way after lunch by the time we go out of the clinic so we took the girls a few stores down for them to tear us someone else's place as we ate a quick lunch.
After lunch we set out to find a marine store for some parts and a hardware store for those great buckets they make with the clear bottoms, now we’ll really have some fun on our dingy runs. It felt like we were walking forever to find the grocery store, we were all hot and tired. The store was larger then expected and the air conditioning was a welcome change. We mainly stocked up on fruit, veg, bread, lunch meats and some dairy. We even bought some cheap icecream ($12). All up about $170. We packed everything in the backpacks, buckets and stroller and we were off again. Only making it to the end of the car park where Carl hailed a taxi. Ok ok I know we should have walked. All boatys walk back but we were exhausted and each carrying 40lbs on our backs. The way we like to think of it is that we spent $10 to save the $12 icecream.
We arrived back at the boat happy with our adventure and celebrated with some high fructose corn syrup – the cheapest drinks at the grocery checkout. Job well done family!
Marsh Harbour. We sent Wes up the mast to take some shots. He was still hung over from New Years so he didn’t last long at that height.
The girls playing doctor – jamming those popsicle stick things down each other throats.
Mmm all the great fresh fruit we got. The bananas were advertised as “green bananas” I’m hoping it just means they’re not ripe yet or is there such a thing as bananas that stay green? I read somewhere that if you cover your banana stems with cling wrap they last longer, we’ll see.
Oh and I forgot, when Carl jumped in to save Pri he also took our extremely expensive sat phone with him. Bugga!
