Ways to Get Creative with Your Child’s Bedroom

By Evette Garside @evette77

Your child's bedroom will quickly become their sanctuary, so it's important to make sure it's a comfortable space where they feel happy. Kids love creativity and magic, so putting your thinking cap on when doing the decorating is going to be essential. Sometimes this is easier said than done, but luckily this blog has some wonderful ideas to help you turn your little one's room into a whole new world of fun. Remember, your child's taste is going to be vastly different from your own, so if you're a fan of white walls and minimalism, put your own preferences aside for this task.

Bed

If you're on the hunt for a small bed for your toddler, don't just pick the first one you see. While your first thought when choosing a bed should be its quality and sturdiness, you should also consider how exciting it will be for your child. Lots of girls love having a princess canopy above their heads, while little boys might prefer a frame shaped like a fire engine or a race car. If you do decide to go for a simpler model then you can always paint some of their favourite shapes and characters onto the side as part of a DIY project.

Toys

Having toys in your child's bedroom is a no-brainer, but how are you going to display them? Little ones love being able to see their cuddly toys, so consider having them on a shelf as well as in their bed rather than packed away in a box. If you are using storage for bits and pieces, make sure the containers are brightly coloured or interesting to look at. This will make tidying up more fun and will hopefully encourage kids to use their drawers rather than leaving jigsaw pieces all over the floor.

Walls

There's lots of room for creativity when it comes to your child's bedroom walls. Whether you decide to paint them, use wallpaper or paste a border around the centre of the room, the sky's the limit. If you're particularly creative, consider painting a mural or allowing your child to put their handprints on a certain section of the wall. You could leave space for a new handprint for every year of their life so they can appreciate how they've changed over the years. Another fun idea is having a height chart, which is something your little ones can appreciate as they grow up.

Floors

Lots of parents are worried about having carpet in their child's room. After all, children are prone to spills and accidents. But that doesn't mean you can't have a rug on the floor to brighten up the space. This could have train tracks on it, making it perfect for play, or have an extra fluffy texture for relaxing. Just make sure it can easily fit in the washing machine just in case it does end up feeling a little too sticky for your liking.
