The powerful messaging app which is now available in 53 languages, has been used to share information during natural disasters and health emergencies, find a date, grow small businesses, and just keep up with far-flung family and friends.
It was in September when CEO Jan Koum announced that the service had reached 900 million monthly active users and now after five months it has racked up another 100 million. But even after this tremendous victory the company was found chirping that it was back to work as they had another 6 billion people left to get on Watsapp.
It is to be noted that Facebook acquired WatsApp in 2014 and its CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that the app was appealing as it was “on its way to 1 billion users, and any Internet service that tops that milestone is extremely valuable”. Also to note is that Facebook hit the 1 billion mark in the fall of 2012.
Another giant who has entered the 1 billion mark is Gmail.
