#WaterlooSunset - Best #London Song

It's a big year for musical anniversaries – The Doors' first album, Sergeant Pepper, The Velvet Underground & Nico (to name but three) all celebrate their 50th birthday this year.
The Kinks' Waterloo Sunset was released 50 years ago this month. That's the big one for me. I think it's the finest of all pop songs from any era.

It's on my mind today for two reasons. The excellent BBC Radio 4 show Soul Music – which looks at music and its impact on our lives – put Waterloo Sunset center stage this morning. I was also delighted to see that it set the song trending on Twitter.

I was recommending Soul Music to a friend just last night and I closed the email with the following line:
"Such a varied programme but be warned: some of them will have you in tears!"
Heed the warning: Soul Music is a highly addictive programme and often very moving. The episode on Waterloo Sunset is no exception.
