BET’s Black Girls Rock! event took place on Friday (April 1) night, celebrating the abundance of talented black women in the entertainment industry. Rihanna recieved the Rock Star Award. In addition, to receiving an award Rihanna made an inspirational speech on stage, thanking not only her mother and grandmother for being strong black women, but also Black Girls Rock! for “Celebrating us in a world that doesn’t celebrate us enough.”
RiRi went on to say, “Role model is not the title they like to give me… (but) I think I can inspire a lot of young women to be themselves and that is half the battle.” She added: “The minute you learn to love yourself, you would not want to be anyone else.
