Watch: Rare Footage of The Black Seadevil

The black seadevil is one of the rarest deep-sea creatures that is seldom seen. Just recently a group of researchers at Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute have spotted a black seadevil and have managed to capture the scary-looking 3.5 inch fish on video, for the first time ever.

“We’ve been diving out here in the Monterey Canyon regularly for 25 years, and we’ve seen three,” said MBARI Senior Scientist Bruce Robinson.

You may remember this creature from Disney’s Finding Nemo movie. Just as seen in that film, the black seadevil actually uses that luminescent “fishing pole” on its head to hypnotize its prey before attack. The researchers have captured the creature for further studies, although they are not sure how long it will survive without deep-see conditions.
