Watch: NASA’s New Remote-Controlled Electric Vehicle in Action

While we were all getting excited about driverless cars, NASA engineers at the Johnson Space Center have been busy building a car that can be controlled via a remote. They call it the Modular Robotic Vehicle or MRV.

The technology of the Golf cart size vehicle was made possible by four motors that have been installed in the four wheels, each with 180 degree movement controls. This allows the car to easily drive through small spaces, smooth parking and even drifting. The MRV can do a top speed of 40MPH.

It’s highly unlikely for NASA to bring this technology into production vehicles. The agency will probably use it to build better rovers and exploration vehicles.
