Want to Learn Something New?

By Liminalspace @Liminal__Space

Want to learn a little something about yourself? Try this exercise.

1. Grab a pen and paper and make two columns on the paper.

2. Bring your best friend to mind. In the first column make a list of all the traits you love about this person.

3. Now, think of someone who gets on your nerves. In the second column write a list of all of the traits that drive you crazy about this person.

4. Hand the paper to a trusted partner and have them slowly read each trait to you starting with the words, “You are (trait)”. To let it sink in, make sure they pause after each one. Close your eyes and listen to their words. Pay attention to how it feels to hear them call you that trait. Notice which ones you reject or resist and which ones you accept or are neutral about.

The ones you reject and resist, those are clues to where your Shadows exist. You may notice that you have Shadows in both columns. There is a misconception that Shadows are only “negative” traits. Shadows are simply traits we deny whether they are good or bad is irrelevant. Regardless, there is a power in each of these traits that you are withholding from yourself. A power that, if fully integrated could be the thing that helps you get past whatever your current roadblock in life is. Isn’t that worth a look?

Starting Sunday, June 14th we will dive deep into the results of this exercise and take a look at the stories you have about yourself. Stories that keep you bound in Shadow behaviors, like projection and self-sabotage.

In my program, Uncover Your Stories: A Personal Exploration of Inner Shadow you will explore your stories:

what they are,
where they came from,
the Shadows they create and
how to free yourself from their grip.

By bringing your Shadows to the light of your awareness you will gain access to an expanded and more empowered self-view.
