Walk on the Ocean by Toad the Wet Sprocket.

One of the great things about this band is the lead singer’s voice. It’s so distinct, so beautiful. He definitely makes the list of my favorite male vocalists. And woah, is he cute! I never saw him before until today!

Walk on the Ocean was released as a single in October of 1992 from the band’s third album, Fear. It went to #18 on Billboard’s Hot 100 but never made the UK charts.

I couldn’t find a story behind the lyrics so I’d like to offer my interpretation. I think it describes a journey that a couple took together, an unplanned vacation. They went to this beautiful place where everything is peaceful and everyone is appreciated. However, they have to go back home eventually. They met some great people and even though they said they’d keep in touch, they never did for some reason (so many people are bad at that). Once they get back home, they’re reminded of the chaos in everyday life and all they can hold onto is the memories of their blissful time along the ocean…
