Up until the late 1990’s it was not uncommon to see a supermodel on the cover of a fashion magazine. In fact, it was more rare to see an actress, singer, or television personality getting the coveted spot. In recent years, you would have to search high and low for a model on the cover. Vogue’s September 2014 issue made a major statement by featuring not one, but NINE super models on its cover!
Could this be a sign of changing times? Is the supermodel finally reclaiming her spot on the cover and bouncing out an actress promoting her latest flick? Will the supermodel finally escape the pages of the magazine and reclaim her rightful place on the cover?
The tagline for the issue is “The Models of the Moment Wearing the Clothes of the Season”. The cover girls are Joan Smalls, Cara Delevingne, Karlie Kloss, Arizona Muse, Edie Campbell, Imaan Hammam, Fei Fei Sun, Vanessa Axente, and Andreea Diaconu. It is hard to say if this is a special exception for highly anticipated September issue or a sign of going back to old times. Whatever direction the magazine is going, these September cover girls are kind of a big deal!
