Viswanathan Anand Pulls of Sensational Victory Over Carlsen at Sochi (game 3)

Sochi has today  delivered happiness and will it be prove to be luckier than Chennai ? Sochi,  is a city in Krasnodar Krai, Russia, located on the Black Sea coast near the border between Georgia/Abkhazia and Russia. Being part of the Caucasian Riviera, it is one of the very few places in Russia with a subtropical climate, with warm to hot summers and mild winters.  Sochi hosted the XXII Olympic Winter Games and XI Paralympic Winter Games in 2014, as well as the Russian Formula 1 Grand Prix from 2014 until at least 2020. More importantly, it is the venue now for the ‘World Chess Championship 2014’ - the title  match between the current world champion, Magnus Carlsen, and challenger Viswanathan Anand, to determine the 2014 World Chess Champion. It is being held from 7 November to 28 November 2014, under the auspices of the World Chess Federation (FIDE). It has been a rather disappointing start for Indian Grand Master Viswanathan Anand in this championship. After losing his crown to Magnus Carlsen last time, he was expected to change his strategy and come back stronger.  In the first game, Anand salvaged a draw but lost the second and we were worried that it should not be a repeat of 2013 championship when Anand never could beat the Norwegian even once. Today is a happy day – a few minutes ago, Viswanathan Anand pulled off a sensational victory over world chess champion Magnus Carlsen on Tuesday in the third game of the ongoing world title match at Sochi, springing back from his disappointing defeat two days ago to restore parity in the 12-game match. From the beginning, Anand took the fight to Carlsen and seized the initiative very early in the game. His playing style on Tuesday was reminiscent of former world champion Gary Kasparov’s in a 1995 world championship match in New York. With regards – S. Sampathkumar
