Viran Chamuditha Guides St. Servatius to Victory

St. Servatius College Matara emerged champion of the Kapila Jayalath Memorial Under 15 Southern Schools Cricket Tournament which was worked off at the Public grounds Ambalangoda on Sunday.

At the final St. Servatius College Matara defeated Rahula College Matara by 21 runs. St. Servatius College scored 68 runs for 1 wicket in 5 overs while Rahula College Matara scored 47 runs for 2 wickets in 5 overs. Earlier St Servatius College beat Devapathiraja College Rathgama and Rahula College beat Sri Sumangala College Hikkaduwa in the semi finals. Vidyaraja National School was adjudged the Up & Coming Team in the tournament. They beat Sri Devananda College Ambalangoda and St. Thomas College Matara.

Altogether 24 schools from the Southern Region participated in this tournament. Southern Province Cricket Umpires Association together with Southern Province Cricket Association and Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association came forward to conduct this cricket tournament in memory of late Kapila Jayalath who was the former Secretary of Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA) and Secretary of the Association of Cricket Umpires in Sri Lanka (ACUSL). schools from Southern Province participated in this tourney.

Viran Chamuditha the opener of St. Servatius Matara scored 99 runs in 5 innings with 4 not outs and performed well throughout the tournament. He scored unbeaten 41 runs against Rahula Matara in the final. He also won the Best Allrounder of the Tournament award and Man of the Final award.

Upul Tharanga former Sri Lanka Cricket Captain was the chief guest at the awards ceremony while Thilak Waththuheawa, President of the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association, Jagath Senarathne, Vice President of SLSCA and Principal of P. De S. Kularathna College Ambalangoda, Saman Hewawitharana Assignment Secretary of ACUSL, Y. Nishantha Kumara U-19 tournament Secretary of SLSCA, Viarj Chaminda De Silva, Technical officer of SLSCA, Jagath Premachandra Secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket Scorers Association, Sisiar Prabod Silva Assignment Secretary of ACUSL (Kalutara Branch), Aruna Jayasekara (President of ACUSL – Southern Branch), Saman Mohan – Secretary of ACUSL (Southern), Sarath Shantha, Arunakantha were also present as special guests.
