Over the last twenty years, Vijay Iyer has proven himself to be one of the freshest and most innovative voices in the world of jazz music. The pianist and composer’s albums are consistently rewarding listens - his music is inventive, intelligent and his sound is distinctly his own. His newest album Mutations (iTunes here) is garnering the usual stellar reviews and is worth checking out for anyone that thinks adventurous jazz music died with the likes of Coltrane, Mingus and Miles. Iyer was recently featured on Q2 Music’s Spaces, a show that features “interviews with artist’s in their space.” Watch it below and below that listen to the title track from Iyer’s amazing 2009 album Historicity.
