VIDEO - The Sea Organ of Zadar, Croatia

By Livingthedreamrtw @livingdreamrtw
The sea organ of Zadar, Croatia is something you've likely never seen before.  In the last few decades the city of Zadar has revitalized their harbor area surrounding the Old Town with new projects to welcome tourists and locals who walks along the promenade.   Opened in 2005, the sea organ is one of these projects; and our personal favorite.
The premise of the sea organ is simple.  A series of PVC tubes and a few other pieces of equipment are installed under the concrete along the walkway on the edge of the harbor.   The setup allows water to flow in with the tide and converts the waves into sound based on the design of the particular tube.
As the tide gets stronger and stronger, so does the sound.
This unique installation is one you'll visit many times during a stay in Zadar to hear how the organ produces different sounds of varying intensities throughout the day.  Or, if you are lucky, a passing ferry will come a bit too close to the organ and the wake that follows will really make those pipes sing!
As this experience is purely auditory in nature, our description will not work for you.  Instead, check out the sea organ for yourselves in our video below!
