Before she became known to Truebies as Marnie or even as Aunt Petunia in Harry Potter, Fiona Shaw had a long illustrious career in stage film, and television. In 2009, she played Mother Courage in the National Theatre’s production of Mother Courage and her Children written by Bertolt Brecht and translated by Tony Kushner (Playwright behind Angels in America, later produced by HBO). In a rare behind the scenes video, the National Theatre captured Shaw as she prepared to go on stage for a performance. Unlike television and film, theater takes a lot of physical, vocal, and mental preparation before a performance because it is live and there is no such thing as saying cut. So watch as Fiona Shaw prepares to go onstage, from physical warm up to makeup, and finally costume in her long running performance as Mother Courage:
