As predicted, Serena Williams headed to Paris shortly after she made an appearance at the Monaco Grand Prix over the holiday weekend. The French Open started on Sunday, and Venus Williams’ second round match was the bright and early Wednesday morning. Serena arrived to watch and the cameras kept panning to her as Venus comfortably won her second round in straight sets. It’s one of the reasons I love Venus and Serena: they always show up for each other. I imagine that Serena has been missing the tour a lot too, and she was probably hanging out with some of her favorite players.
Obviously, Serena won’t be back on the tour for a while because she’s pregnant. At the Met Gala, Andre Leon Talley asked Serena and Alexis if they were finding out the sex of the baby, and Serena said they were waiting:
Except no one really believed that, and considering Venus and Serena’s tight sister-bond, most people (myself included) hoped that Serena is expecting a girl. Guess what? SHE IS. Venus let the cat out of the bag during an interview on the court.
The outing came as her sister Venus confirmed her sister is expecting a baby girl during an interview with Eurosport. Referring to the baby as ‘she’, she said ‘I want to be known as the favorite aunt.’
Making it quite clear the baby is a girl, she added: ‘We’re a like baby V, baby Lyn, baby Esher, we all want the baby to be named after us.’

I would love it if Serena named her daughter [Something] Venus Ohanian. Like, Venus as the middle name. Lyn Venus sounds pretty. Esher Venus is a mouthful. How about… Violet Venus? Mary Venus? Something like that. As for Venus totally revealing the baby-gender before Serena… it’s sort of rude but I love that she did it. She’s excited about it too! Aunt V.
