Vegan Cream Sauce: for White Pizza, Or When You Just Want That Little Special Something Extra…

Sometimes you just need that extra creaminess.  That drizzle of deliciousness to top off a perfect dish, that extra richness to fill things out, that cream sauce under all your lovely veggies on your pizza.  Totally omnivore approved too – and even more so, the omni I made it for was the one who suggested making it again almost immediately! Quick and simple, this is a go-to you must add to your basic repertoire.

Print Vegan Cream Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 C cashews
  • 1 C nutritional yeast
  • 1/2 - 1 C water
  • 1/2 t salt
  • Pepper to taste
  • 10 scallions - use only the white parts at the bottom
  • 1/2 t nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a high speed blender and blend until smooth. That's it! :)

Notes

Add water as needed to reach the consistency you like. Sauce will thicken up in the fridge, so if you have any leftovers, just add a little water when ready to use again.

If you don't have a high speed blender simply soak the cashews for at least 4 hours and then puree in a food processor until smooth.

Feel free to flavor it up as you like! I've added fresh sage, basil, and other herbs as desired to match the flavors of each particular dish I've used this in.
