I was reading a post recently, I’ve Been Married 12 Years and We Never Celebrated Valentine’s Day, and it really got me thinking.
Why Do We Wait for Valentine’s Day to Declare Our Love?
It just seems so over-commercialized anymore. The pressure to get a loving and special present that your significant other will love; spending all that money on over-priced flowers, candy, or jewelry; and the anticipation of a hot and sexy romp in the sack later that evening.
Why Do We Do It?
Wouldn’t it be better to declare our love for one another sporadically during the year? Why does it require spending oodles of dollars to express our love and devotion to one another?
Isn’t a simple handwritten note, on a post-it note, stuffed in your loved ones work uniform for him to find the next day, hopefully while at work, more loving and appreciative? How about a message out of the blue? Or a sexy little text during the middle of their work day with maybe a little boob shot?
Aren’t the Little Things More Appreciative?
I’m a simple kind of girl. I hate over-commercialized holidays. My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving because I get to make a huge dinner for three (3) and have leftovers for the rest of the week. My second favorite is Halloween simply for the fact that I can be my normal-evil self and horror movies are playing all month-long!
Valentine’s Day, What’s All The Hype?
Is it because society says this is the day we spend oodles of dollars on over-priced items and that is what we must do? Do you know how many of my friends get totally bent out of shape and want a divorce simply because their loved one didn’t do anything for them on V-Day?
Isn’t it time we stand up to society and say NO MORE!
Love, in my book, is 24/7 365 days a year. Not wrapped up into one day a year. Although I do appreciate getting flowers or a card on V-Day, I’d much prefer it on random days which totally catch me off-guard.
What are your thoughts?
Why do we allow society to dictate these sort of things to us?
I think I’m going to make a stand this year! Who’s with me?!
