Hi everyone, this is Natalie and I’m here to show you a simple yet elegant Valentine’s Day craft idea. I’ll show you how to create and design your own card for that special someone in your life. As with all the ideas I present on Simone Design Blog, this idea is 100% mine.
First, we’ll need to get a few supplies. I purchased mine from the Paper Source. (Disclaimer: I’m not endorsing products from the Paper Source in this post, and they haven’t compensated me for writing it). Below is a picture of my supplies. From left to right, they are a heat tool, embellishing stickers, glitter tape, a tape runner, a paper-hearts accordion, gold embossing powder, MT masking tape (any washi tape would work), a “Happy Valentine’s Day” stamp, fuchsia-colored A2-size folded cards, a stamp pad, and a pair of scissors.
Now let’s make this very easy and yet elegant Valentine’s Day card!
To start, cut a small piece of the gold-glitter washi tape. The piece should cover the very corner of all four corners on the front side of the card. The tape has an adhesive on the non-glitter side, so be very careful when peeling off the backing.
Continue to do these steps, using first the MT tape and then another piece of the glitter tape. The new pieces should be in graduated sizes from the original gold piece and should be in all four corners of the front of the card.
Once you’ve placed the tapes on all four corners of the front of the card and you’re pleased with the results, you’re ready to move on to the next step. Take the “Happy Valentine’s Day” stamp and press it on the stamp pad, making sure it’s well covered in ink.
Once the stamp is properly inked, press it on the top of the front side of the card, taking care to center it properly.
Next, generously pour the gold embossing powder over the inked area on the card. Afterwards, dump the excess back into the container and give the card a little tap to get any remaining powder off. To complete the embossing process, do the following. Turn on the heat tool and wait for it to get sufficiently hot (always using good judgment when using the heat tool). Then wave it over the embossing powder until you notice the gold color changing.
Now comes the fun part: embellishing the card with pretty words. Using your Gelly Roll pens from last month’s DIY calendar post, write on the card “Guess How Much I Love You…” Ahh!
With the exterior of the card now complete, let’s decorate the inside. Here’s where we’ll be using the accordion hearts, the washi tapes and the embellishing stickers. So, let’s take them out and have some more fun. Cut some strips of tape to decorate the front of the heart.
To expand on your phrase from the front of the card, create a teaser by writing “Pull Here to Find Out”. How could your sweetheart resist?
Use the tape runner to adhere the hearts to the card. Place it on the backside of the hearts. Then press this backside to the inside of the card on its right side.
Now for the really creative part of the card, putting your poetic and romantic side to use. We do this by using the Gelly Roll pens to write our thoughtful messages. Decorate it further with the embellishing stickers.
And you’ve done it! How gorgeous is this? I ask you, wouldn’t you like to receive a card that your significant other made just for you? I would! Why? Because its home-made, that makes it all the more special.
