Use Your iPhone as a Scanner

If you were ever wondering if you can use your iPhone as a scanner, the answer is yes. You can take a multipage document and make it into a single PDF file. There are a couple of good apps that allow you to do this, both free and paid. Bear in mind, though – the quality won’t be as good as it would if you were to use a real scanner, but it can work for some receipts, recipes etc.

Use your iPhone as a scanner.

1. Download a desired scanner app (e.g. Scanner Pro).
2. Install and launch the app.
3. Take a picture of your document.
4. Tell the app where the paper edges are, if it can’t detect them on its own.
5. Save your picture.
6. Scan the next page or finish if there’s only one.

What makes some apps better than others is how well they detect paper edges, how easily they switch between B/W and color etc. However, in a nutshell, this is how most of them work.

In order to get a better scan:

-Make sure that the lighting conditions are good, because shadows can make documents look bad.
-Hold your iPhone as steady as possible. You might have to take a few shots to get it right. A tripod can help you take better scans.
-Make sure that the paper you’re scanning is as flat as possible. If there are any folds and creases, you might have some trouble scanning your document.
