a curry recipe which is made with green gram along with dry peas served with dinner rolls/pav buns

Ingredients

  • green gram and dry peas(combined) - 1 cup
  • onion - 2 roughly chopped
  • tomato - 2 roughly chopped
  • ginger ,finely chopped - 1 teaspoon
  • garlic ,finely chopped - 1 teaspoon
  • turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • red chilli powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • dry mango powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • garam masala - 1/4 teaspoon
  • cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • coriander seeds - 2 teaspoons
  • coconut - 2 tablespoons
  • hing or asafoetida - a generous pinch
  • salt - to taste
  • oil - as needed
Instructions
  1. Soak the combined 1 cup of green gram and dry peas with enough water overnight.The next day strain the water and then pressure cook it with enough water in the pressure cooker for about 6 whistles.
  2. It must be a soggy texture and drain it and reserve the water which will be help in making the gravy for the recipe.
  3. in a kadai,heat 3 teaspoons of oil and add cumin seeds.
  4. Once it splutter,add coriander seeds and followed by roughly chopped onions.Saute it well till it becomes soft and translucent.
  5. Now add ginger and garlic and saute it well.Add roughly chopped tomatoes and cook it till it get mushy.
  6. Finally add coconut and saute it and switch off the flame.cool the mixture and make a fine paste from it.
  7. To the paste add all the spice powders ,red chilli powder,cumin powder,garam masala,turmeric powder,asafoetida and salt to it.
  8. In the same kadai,heat 1 tablespoon of oil and add the paste to it and saute it till oil separates.Then add cooked green gram and dry peas along with drained water.
  9. Boil till it combines well and oil separates.This will take approximately 8 to 10 minutesAdd coriander leaves and give a quick mix.
  10. Serve piping hot with dinner rolls or any indian flat breads.
