US$ 5 million has been paid for a consignment of LP Gas for a ship carrying 3,700 metric tonnes of LP Gas that arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday.
Litro Gas officials told the Daily News at 5.50 pm yesterday that they have paid their supplier. Litro workers have been unloading the gas consignment at the time this story went to press. The consignment has arrived as expected. According to Litro Gas officials they expect another shipment to arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow (Wednesday) as well.
“It will take five to six hours to unload the present gas shipment,” a senior Litro Gas official said.
Litro officials said Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe authorised the payment to purchase the gas consignment as promised.
“When asked how long it would take Litro to distribute the consignment to local domestic LP gas users, he said they have arranged to deliver goods to the gas agents from early morning.
Steps are being taken to distribute around 80,000 cylinders of domestic LP gas on a daily basis from Wednesday (May 18), According to Litro Chairman Vijitha Herath. Litro expects the second consignment to arrive in the country by noon on Wednesday, the officials said.
When inquired whether they have set apart gas deliveries for special requirements such as for industrial use and numerous other emergency use from the present consignment , they said that they will decide that based on the demand and various other requirements of concern.
