Upload Speed – Why Is It Important In Broadband Connection?

Internet is all about uploading and downloading online data. In spite of recent evolution in the broadband technology, the upload speed still lags behind badly as compared to the super-fast download speeds. First of all, let’s understand the significant differences between these two different measures: MBps and Mbps, and then observe how crucial a role upload speeds tend to play in this hi-tech era.

Difference between MBps and Mbps

When you are transferring files with the help of your broadband plans in Chennai, you are using some amount of data which is either referred to as MBps or Mbps. The difference of the capital or lowercase b, is what affects the data transfer. B is Byte and B is bite, with 1 MBps equivalent to 8 Mbps. So, a speed with 4 Mbps is definitely higher than a 4 Mbps speed. In simpler terms, if one ISP tells you it is offering you 32 Mbps speeds, and another tells you it is offering 8MBps speeds, then the one offering 8MBps will be faster.

Why are upload speeds becoming important in broadband connection?

The best wired  broadband connection would be one with speedy downloading making it easier for us to surf the internet and download crucial files, documents, songs, movies, etc. in a jiffy. However, the same didn’t apply for upload speeds earlier. Only a few businesses that dealt in FTP (File Transfer Protocol) had the privilege to enjoy faster upload speeds.

Digital India program launched by the government of India has made it possible for entrepreneurs to use YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, etc. in order to spread their word among masses. Also, freelancers are now able to explore new job opportunities, and discuss their ideas with clients with. If you are a photographer or a video maker, you can relate to the pain of uploading a high-resolution file of around 40MB, and waiting for hours to see it actually ‘uploaded’.

And today, when we humans have no room for patience, we want to download and upload data in the blink of an eye. Do you know it takes around 10 minutes to download a 700Mb document? However, if the same document needs to be uploaded, it will almost take an hour. Now, you can just imagine the disparity between the data we upload and download! In the recent years, we have become highly dependent on the internet for both personal and professional activities. From kids to older people, every person has at least a smartphone having an internet connection, and as a result, the continuous uploads, occupying a huge chunk of the same bandwidth, makes downloading speed slower.

Let’s admit that we require high upload and download speeds from our broadband connections at all times and that’s why we prefer switching to super-fast fiber technology that is packed with higher bandwidth, and most importantly, symmetric speeds.

Conclusion

One must learn about the commonly used terms such as MBps, Mbps, bandwidth, fiber connection, etc. before subscribing to a plan. This way, you will know whether an Airtel Broadband plan is suitable for you or not, and how much money you need to shell out. Remember to check for Mbps and MBps, and consider the connection with symmetrical speeds for uploading and downloading content. Demand for internet will certainly increase in the coming years, but the question ‘will the upload speeds improve as well’ is still being debated.
