New year, new house? Or perhaps you just fancy a refresh of your current accommodation. If you’re looking to decorate or redecorate your space, ringing the changes in your home just got easier with this round up of interior design trends for 2017.
Quirky Lighting
Quirky lighting is tipped to be the must-have in interior design schemes in the coming year, irrespective of whether you home is the epitome of modern, minimalist design or a more traditional pad.
Designer, quirky lights make for a great focal point in an interior design scheme but designers have gone one step further. The time has come to relax and have fun with your lighting.
The drive for energy efficiency in recent years has led to us switching lights off but with new bulb technology, it is now possible to have constant lighting that doesn’t cost the earth, nor bump up your electricity bill. As well a designer lighting, you can also design your own. Look for more personalised lighting design option, such as neon lighting from Neon Creations – this can make a fantastic feature as well as providing lighting to smaller spaces..
Tropical Patterns
If you are brave enough, then introducing tropical pattern into your home’s interior really will ring the changes for the New Year and brighten your pad up too. Available as wallpaper, throws and cushions, along rugs and other accessories, tropical prints look great in any room. Remember, however, that the bolder the print, the more ‘space’ it will consume so use carefully in smaller spaces.
Luscious Green
Pantone released their Colour of the Year 2017 a few weeks before the end of last year. A not-too deep and not-too bright green was the chosen color. It is the perfect shade for smaller spaces as it doesn’t close in the space, but neither is it too bright to be almost neon like. Making it a feature wall is the perfect way of adding green into a space.
Brass Accessories
What works well with green is brass accessories and this year, the vibe for anything brass-like has not changed. We saw this trend come online in 2016 and brass remains the chosen color and finish from all accessories, from desk lamps to sculptures.
Brass also looks great against a backdrop of earthy green and with directional lighting or a quirky, designer light in situ too, you really do have a great finish to a space.
Softer Tones
Painting your whole house varying shades of green is clearly not a trend that anyone would prescribe. Contrasting and complementing colours can open up a space, as well as give it a touch of freshness that is appealing, even in the drab of winter. The palette of on-trend colours alongside luscious green are muted, neutral colours. Choose barely-there beige, soft greys and blush pinks.
Matte Finish Accessories
Just like brass effect is the material and color of accessories, it is important to also get the textures right. Rather than bright shiny finishes, opt for matte finishes such as brushed brass. Think olde worlde, but with a modern edge.
Texture
To add depth and warmth to any room, you need to add texture.
2016 was the year of the sumptuous rug and the deep pile cushion. Faux fur was everywhere, from decorative cushions on the bed to scatter cushions on the sofa.
You can keep hold of these ‘fluffy’ cushions in the coming year but the on-trend texture is a weave finish to a material. Not overly coarse to touch, the weave pattern has a flat texture but is tactile enough to be the cushion you want to snuggle up with when the last of the winter weather is battering your window.
As with all interior design trends, you need to choose the trends that suit your home, your budget and your taste.
