A person who was drunk and behaving in an unruly manner near a restaurant in Kamburupitiya had been attacked with a mammoty by a group of people including the owner of the restaurant and died of his injuries, early yesterday morning (05) after being hospitalized.
The deceased is Ruwan Kumara (35) who had been resident at Magamure Road, Kamburupitiya.
The police said that this person was in the habit of yelling and shouting while drunk and roaming around the city.
This individual had been near a restaurant at Kamburupitiya on April 3 evening shouting obsceneties. The owner of the restaurant had told him to leave the place and then an argument had arisen between the two of them. Then the owner of the restaurant together with his father and some others had assaulted the drunk individual.
When he could not be controlled, the owner of the restaurant had hit him with a mammoty. The person had sustained serious injuries as a result and had been admitted to the Karapitiya hospital.
He had died yesterday (05) early morning while being treated there.
The police have taken into custody, the restaurant owner, his father and another person, on suspicion. The police said one other person is to be arrested.
