Former Finance Minister and United National Party Colombo District Leader Ravi Karunanayake said arrangements are underway to hold the United National Party’s May Day celebration with the largest number of people near the Independence Square premises in Colombo.

The former minister also mentioned that the party’s organizers are requested to give maximum support to make the May Day rally organized in support of President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s country building programme, a huge success.

The former Finance Minister, United National Party and Colombo District Leader mentioned this while speaking at a press conference held day before yesterday (14) in Colombo.

He mentioned that President Ranil Wickremesinghe has succeeded in taking the country that collapsed due to the economic crisis on to the right path and that foreign reserves have grown to 5 billion dollars and the people have benefited from it.The former minister also said that the success achieved has been praised by the International Monetary Fund and therefore the third tranche of the International Monetary Fund will definitely be received.Karunanayake further said:The United National Party has decided to hold the upcoming May Day celebration near the Independence Square premises in Colombo with a large gathering of people. Even though the May Day rally is being held in Colombo, we expect the support of all organizers and affiliated organizations of the United National Party to make it more successful.

The expectation of this year’s May Day celebration is to support President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s country building programme. Everyone needs to work together to make those activities successful. As of now the country has reached the right path. President Ranil Wickremesinghe is successfully fulfilling the challenge he accepted. In fact, to develop this country, a competitive economy should be created. A price equilibrium occurs within competition. The quota system is no longer successful. And it has been confirmed that it has failed and is corrupt. Even the International Monetary Fund has praised that President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s

programme is on the right track with proper financial discipline. It is true that people are under some pressure. But compared to the situation that prevailed, the country has been brought to a better place.
