Uni Ika Ai Show the Shape of Dream Pop to Come [Premiere]

There’s something about collaborations that spring up out of interesting circumstances that makes the music even better. At least that’s the case for new Brooklyn band Uni Ika Ai. The band began as Peter Lalish was on tour with Lucius, sending improvised snippets from soundcheck to lead vocalist Maia Friedman, who added the melodies and lyrics. It’s a disjointed process that resulted in the cohesive and lovely first song “Make You Better.” It’s a track that combines dreamy vocals with swirling atmospherics and urgent rhythms. It’s a new kind of off-kilter dream-pop that the genre has been waiting for. Check out the track above and be sure to grab the track on Bandcamp now.
