Under RM500 smartphone of the week – HTC Wildfire S A510E
I will be introducing “Under RM500 smartphone of the week” segment in this blog which will feature under RM500 branded smartphones available for sale on online stores in Malaysia. The new slot will provide smartphone deal seekers more information on the phone and help them to obtain the best device for their money. It is however important to note that the price listed in this segment is not fixed as stores that are featured in the post may change the price at their discretion anytime and the price listed maybe be lower or higher as compared to those available on physical stores.
The first under RM500 smartphone featured in this blog is the HTC Wildfire S A510E which was first introduced by HTC in February 2011. The phone is now available for sale at only RM388 at Lazada’s Weekend Clearance Sale which is applicable only for two days, that is on 26 and 27 January. The device is originally priced at RM514 and the price may go back to the original on following weekdays.
The HTC Wildfire S A510E is powered by Android OS, v2.3 (Gingerbread) which is upgradable to Gingerbread v2.3.5. The body is measured at 101.3 x 59.4 x 12.4 mm (3.99 x 2.34 x 0.49 in) and weight at only 105 g (3.70 oz). It is powered by a 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 ARM11 processor and an Adreno 200 GPU. It has 512MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM, external memory can be expanded through a microSD up to 32GB. The display is 3.2-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with 256K colors, size of 320 x 480 pixels (~180 ppi pixel density). It is also equipped with a 5MP rear camera, 2592 x 1944 pixels with autofocus and LED flash. It can shoot video at VGA@24fps. Unfortunately there is no front facing camera. In term of connectivity, the phone supports GPRS Up to 114 kbps, EDGE Up to 560 kbps, HSDPA at 7.2 Mbps; HSUPA at 384 Kbps, WLAN Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot and Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP, EDR.
Pros: Cheap, an HTC brand name, cute but sturdy design, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, 5MP camera.
Cons: 600MHz processor slowing down multi-tasking and video playing, small memory means you can only install limited apps and games.
Verdict: This phone is great for youngsters or first time smartphone buyers or for those who are really on a very tight budget.
