Verdict on Under Paris

Under Paris is an action horror following an expert scientist recruited to help get a shark out of the Paris River. However, a group of activists start making things more complicated and an impending triathlon puts them in a race against time.

This movie uses the same mentality as ‘Jaws’ with the location refusing to shut down a threat with dire consequences. However, it does bring forward a climate message, using the idea that predators would use new hunting grounds to survive. When it comes to the action, the catacombs sequence is the standout and the display of the chaotic nature a shark attack creates comes through. However, the activists are portrayed as stupid, rather than game-changing, which only makes things worse for everyone involved.

In the end, this movie follows the beats of most shark movies. It creates a bigger threat which sees an expert needing to overcome the odds and go against authority to stop. The chaotic sequences create a graphic display of the injuries suffered, elevating this movie. If you want a good old-school shark movie, this is going to be one for you to enjoy.
