The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has unanimously decided to extend all necessary support to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The agreement was reached at a discussion chaired by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the President’s House on Saturday.

Accordingly, the SLPP group has decided to extend their full support to the President’s programme.

It is reported that 91 MPs were present at the meeting while the rest did not attend the meeting due to security and other reasons.

The attack on the residences of ruling party MPs was discussed at the meeting and some MP’s had blamed the IGP for failing to ensure the security of the people’s representatives and protect their property.

According to political sources, former Minister Ramesh Pathirana, Channa Jayasumana and MP Diana Gamage had strongly objected to the failure of the Police to provide proper security. Sources said that MP Ali Sabry had pointed out that a mechanism could be set up to take action against those who have shown violent behavior under the existing law.
