Uma in the 1st: Peru 2-: Whas Going on Here?

By Johntalbott

2.5 Uma, 7, rue du 29 juillet (you know, the 3rd day of the revolution of 1830 that deposed Charles X in favor of Louis-Philippe?  Well no matter) in the 1st, 01.40.15.08.15, closed Sundays and Mondays, (Metro: Tuilleries) was the 2nd of two Peruvian-slanted restaurants in 2 weeks to be awarded 3/5 hearts by Emmanuel Rubin of Figaroscope.  I love Peruvian food, especialy ceviche, so I was really looking forward to trying these two places.  Today's was touted as the dream of Guillaume Sudre to have a franco-péruvio-nippone resto and bar - what could be better?  But what a disappointment.  The staff is absolutely spectacular, speaking English even as we answered in French; the decor is up-to-date and the 2-2-2 "menu" interesting sounding.  But then, the food John?

We had ceviche firsts: a ceviche of swordfish with too-big slices of fish for the ladies and soggy crevelles with nice soba, wasabi and ginger for me.

Then the ladies had baked maigre and I had confited beef, both with dollops of agrumish sauce which saved the otherwise bland dishes.

The meal was saved by a quite nice Saumur and wonderful coffee (Le Café d’Unna Kent Tamil-Nadu – Inde).

Our bill, with 2 bottles of wine (our fourth had nothing but two bottled of Diet Coke d/t extreme gastro-upset but I won't count those) and two coffees was 115.33 E a couple.

Go?  Again, like yesterday's L'1K this place needs a lot of work before I'll come back, despite the dB of 63.7.
