Tyrese Dedicated “Let’s Get It On” To His Daughter
I’m thoroughly convinced that Tyrese is parenting from a book titled: How To Make Things Weird With Your Daughter While At The Same Time Causing Everyone Around You To Cringe. Because Tyrese is back at it with another extremely messed-up attempt at “bonding” with his 10-year-old daughter Shayla.
Tyrese spent most of last week in court (or the funeral home, as Tyrese probably calls it) fighting with his ex-wife Norma Gibson over custody of Shayla. Norma has a temporary restraining order for herself and Shayla against Tyrese. TMZ says that a judge granted Tyrese a 6-hour court-monitored visit with Shayla on Sunday. Anything Tyrese had to say to Shayla he could have saved for Sunday. But according to Vibe, he decided to send a message to her the night before instead. Just like his previous messages to Shayla, this one was very public and creepy.
Tyrese dedicated a song to Shayla during a performance at the R&B Super Jam in Atlanta, GA on Saturday. Tyrese sang a barely-modified version of “Let’s Get It On” by Marvin Gaye. I don’t know if Tyrese is trying to land a job as the music supervisor for Woody Allen’s next film or what. But I think we can all agree that singing a song about getting down to business is never an appropriate tune to sing to your 10-year-old daughter. Adding insult to injury, Tyrese began his performance by asking everyone in the audience to record his performance and post it online in hopes that his daughter will see it.

I wouldn’t be surprised if some of those videos were posted with the hashtags #ChrisHansenYouThere? or #JesusTakeTheMicrophone.
I know Tyrese’s goal was to declare his love for his daughter, at least I believe that was the intention? But it worked the opposite way. Instead, all he did was ruin “Let’s Get It On” for people. And that’s a song that should be ruined the old-fashioned way; by watching your great aunt and uncle try to grind to it at a wedding reception.
