Typical Homesellers... 2013 Saw Some Changes

The National Association of Realtors compiles an annual profile of buyers and sellers. We took a look at characteristics of homebuyers in Minnesota and nationwide last week and today we take a brief look at homesellers.

Sellers in 2013 were typically older, had a lower household income and were more likely to be married than in recent years.

  • How long typical seller lived in the home they sold
    • 8 years in Minnesota
    • 9 years nationwide
    • 6 years in 2007
  • Used a real estate agent to assist in the sale
    • 95% in Minnesota
    • 88% nationwide
  • Delayed selling because property was worth less than mortgage
    • 23% in Minnesota
    • 13% nationwide
