Twitter hack hits the platform's most famous users, Netflix gets a co-CEO and Revel's mopeds arrive in San Francisco. Here is your daily crisis of July 16, 2020.

The big story: high-level Twitter accounts hacked into a crypto scam

It was crazy: Twitter accounts from Apple, Elon Musk, Joe Biden and many, many others were compromised yesterday, posting messages with the address of a Bitcoin wallet, promising that all payments would be doubled and returned.

Apparently, a hacker used an internal Twitter administration tool to access all of these accounts. The company described this as "a social engineering attack coordinated by people who have successfully targeted some of our employees with access to internal systems and tools."

Unsurprisingly, Twitter's action has taken a hit, and the company will likely face fallout in the weeks or months to come. (One of the first responses was to lock out accounts that recently changed their passwords.)
