Turn Vanilla Ice-Cream into Matcha Ice-Cream

By Cosybites @cosybites

Many years ago, I attended an interview with a multi-national company in the food industry. Well, 3 interviews to be exact, all with the same person – the General Manager. The first 2 interviews went well. The GM even gave me a couple of their company’s granola bars to try. During the third interview, the GM asked me if I have tried their company’s ice-cream. I said yes and he asked me what’s my favorite flavor. I could have gone with the usual cookies & cream or belgian chocolate but I stayed true to what I really love, green tea ice-cream. The GM was visibly taken aback by my reply and so was I for what came out of his mouth next.

“Why do you like such a yucky flavor?”

These were his exact words. I wanted to ask him why the company chose to sell this flavor if it’s yucky but it wouldn’t be appropriate. In case you are wondering, I didn’t get the job. And I wonder if my choice of ice-cream had anything to do with it. Still, my love for matcha green tea ice-cream has not changed. I love the taste of sweet ice-cream infused with a hint of bitter matcha flavor.

If you are in a country where matcha ice-cream is not readily available, here’s an easy way for you to turn that tub of vanilla ice-cream into matcha ice-cream.

MATCHA GREEN TEA ICE-CREAM

All you need:

  • Vanilla ice-cream
  • A few tablespoon of matcha powder (adjust this according to taste)

Here’s how:

  1. Leave vanilla ice-cream for about 30 minutes or so, till soft.
  2. Add a few tablespoon of matcha powder to the melted vanilla ice-cream and mix well with a whisk.
  3. Put the ice-cream back in the freezer until frozen.
  4. Enjoy your matcha green tea ice-cream!
