Tugboat Captain have shared ‘Day to Day’, the second single to be taken from their debut studio album ‘Rut’ (out on 16 October via Double A-Side Records. Described by the band as a ‘dry and fatalistic anthem for Gen-Z apathy’, the song combines elements of grandiose and melodic ’60s pop with The Divine Comedy’s acerbic wit.
They talk about trying to live up to expectations, the inevitability of shattered dreams and how ‘I’m not designed for hope’ – something so many of us can empathise with in the current (even pre-Covid) climate: ‘Keep your success, I guess I’ll confess I’m living day to day’; ‘God, I’m depressed, I guess it’s just a test to see what I can take’.
